Jak’s World Laughter Session
On the evening of 26 January 2026 at 7 pm, we held a laughter session as part of Jak’s World’s Hopeful Horizons – Winter Edition. Unlike the mindfulness sessions we had before, the laughter session did not require any breathing or meditation techniques; all participants did was enjoy the time and have fun.
The first activity was the duck catapult. Each of us was assigned one or two rubber ducks as bullets to hit the target at the back of the door from another side of the room. Then, to make it more skilful, a table tennis was placed at the top of a roadblock. I got to say it was too hard to aim that until this part ended, the ping-pong ball remained untouched.
The next part was the highlight. Mr Rob became our fine arts teacher and taught us how do paper folding (‘Origami’ in Japanese), and I was fully captivated by his masterful skills. I witnessed how he turned a square piece of paper into a beautiful pink peony. Such a skill-demanding work is never my dish, while Mr Rob patiently demonstrated every single procedure several times, until every participant comprehended. Then, I folded a rose made of blue napkins, which was way simpler than the pink peony. This was also the first time I sampled the enjoyment of paper folding with a relaxed mindset. As paper folding was always associated with scores in school when I was young, I could barely immerse myself in the folding without an unnecessary burden.
